Baptism

Tommy was baptized this past Thursday night. It was a private baptism and then we held mass. Tommy was baptized in a gown that is over 94 years old. Joe and his dad Randy were both baptized in the same gown! It was a beautiful night and Father did an amazing job. We met him at the Mercy Gilbert Hospital. He is from ND so we asked if he would perform the baptism on Tommy and he agreed! We then went over to Joe's parents house as they hosted everyone and made an amazing meal. It was such a wonderful night and we are such proud parents. Tommy did not even cry. He just cringed a little when the water was poured over his head. Joe's Aunt and Uncle are the Godparents. We feel so blessed to be surrounded by awesome family and friends!

I love Fridays!

I love Fridays as that means Joe is home for the weekend and I love spending the weekends with Joe and Tommy! This Friday was especially great as my good friend - Katie "Lukens" Pinke came to visit from ND. She was in town on business. It was so great to see her and catch up. We have been friends since I was born. She used to babysit me and I then lived with her in Fargo when I worked at the Fargodome. She had good advice about babies as she has a cute little one named Elizabeth who is 1 at home and she is due this summer with her third child!

As soon as Joe got home I handed over Tommy and went to get a pedicure. It felt so good and I practically fell asleep in the pedicure chair. I got red nails with a cardinal on my big toe in honor of the Arizona Cardinals playing in the Super Bowl! I am ready for the party! I then brought home the movie Fireproof and Joe and I ate pizza and watched the movie. I also had my first glass of wine since April 2008. It felt so good to lay next to Joe on the couch drinking a glass of wine while Tommy slept in the swing and we watched our movie about faith and marriage. It was such a delightful night!

Now, tonight we are going on our first official "Date Night" as we are going out to eat and then off to the Lion King. I am so excited to go out with my husband while his mom babysits.

Bubble Boy

Joe affectionately calls Tommy "bubble boy" and I am the bubble. He says that I protect Tommy from everything and everyone so he compares him to bubble boy. I have to admit that being a first time mommy brings a lot of love but with all that love comes worry. I don't know how parents do it as you don't want anything to happen to your children! I now have a new appreciation for my parents! Anyways, all of the doctors told me to limit outings and visitors since it is cold and flu season. So, I took them very seriously as I do not want my little baby to get sick.

Well, I am trying to relax and tonight the bubble burst. We took Tommy out on his first outing. I have taken Tommy to the doctor and out on walks but that does not count. Tonight, I took Tommy to church with Joe and my mom. I did not want to leave the comfy and clean house but my mom and Joe reassured me that Tommy would be fine. I kept him all snuggled up next to my tummy in the new sling that my friend Missy bought. I was nervous but it all went well. I covered him up when I heard someone cough but I think each day will get easier and I hope to not be as paranoid in the future. I am still going to be careful but I am trying to loosen up.

Grandma

My mom flew in from North Dakota on Friday and she was so excited to meet Tommy! She brought Village hot sauce and Pizza Corner pizza for Joe. She loves holding Tommy and has been a great help. Tommy has been fussy the past couple of days so it is nice to have my mom here. My mom and I went and got pedicures yesterday so it was nice to get out of the house for awhile.

One Week

It has been one week since Tommy was born and it has been the most amazing week ever! Also, I have never slept less in a week but it is all worth it. I love being a mom and I love watching Joe as he is such a good dad. I have fallen more and more in love with him each day! Joe went back to work yesterday and I was so nervous as he does most the diaper changes and all the cooking and cleaning while I do the feedings. However, everything is going well when Tommy and I are home alone. We are starting to go on daily walks which we both love. Actually, Tommy just sleeps. He loves his car seat/stroller. Last week when Tommy was three days old he went to the pediatrician for a check up and he had gained 4 oz. in 3 days. The doctor was amazed as he had never seen a breastfed baby gain weight that soon after being born. My milk came in right away and the doctor was wondering if I was related to a Holstein cow. I was offended at first as I thought he was talking about my weight but he was just referring to my milk supply! The doctor said I cannot overfeed him so that was good news as I thought maybe I had done something wrong.

Nana is an awesome Grandma and it is so nice as she lives right down the street!
